The management of Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution (PHED) Plc has commenced a strategic staffing initiative to engage and groom graduates from different fields of study. The staffing initiative aptly tagged Engineer Trainee Scheme (ETS) and Graduate Trainee Scheme (GTS) is another phase of evolution in the new PHED as the organization strives to become the No. 1 Electricity Distribution Company in Nigeria.
The Scheme is predicated on transforming young and talented graduates in various fields of study into professionals to train and consolidate manpower gaps in very critical areas of the company’s operations.
The MD/CEO Dr Henry O Ajagbawa FCA, who conceived the idea and was birthed by Human Capital Management, said the scope of the program takes the model of an accelerated career path who undertake the programme. According to the CEO, the company has identified short-term and long-term strategies to consolidate her effort towards attaining her vision, hence this trainee scheme is core to the entire process.
Continuing, Dr Ajagbawa, noted that talented graduates participating in the maiden edition of the ETS/GTS, will be placed on an eighteen months rotation program to undergo hands-on-experience in all areas of our business before their deployment to specific departments.
The MD/CEO stated that the program will be rigorous, with an assessment window opened every six months in line with the provisions of the scope of staffing initiative. He also revealed that only peak performers will be given permanent placement after the final appraisal.
He advised the pioneer ETS/GTS participants to seize the opportunity to unleash their full potential during the two weeks intensive induction.
