STS which means Standard Transfer Specification is the global standard for the transfer of electricity and other utility prepayment tokens, ensuring inter-operability between system components from different manufacturers.
STS Edition 2 (STS2) is the recent specification with improved/upgraded security patches.
Only STS2 compliant vending systems can generate the special key change tokens for all meters required before the TID rollover event on 24 November 2024.
STS6 is simply the firmware version which supports STS2. It is this firmware that enables our system to capture, vend and generate key change on STS Edition 2.
All STS compliant meters (old and new) must comply with STS Edition 2 before 24 November 2024 to achieve a successful rollover.
TID also known as Token Identification code is used to uniquely identify each token that is generated through the vending system so such token is not regenerated.
When a token is generated and the meter accepts a token, it stores the TID in order to prevent same token from being accepted more than once.
TID rollover is the process of generating key change tokens (KCT) to move all STS compliant meters from 1993 base date to 2014 base date.
KCT is an abbreviation for Key Change Token.
A KCT contains 2 sets of 20-digit numbers (40 digits in all) needed whenever there is a need to update the parameters of meters.
Rollover KCTs are 40-digit numbers generated by the upgraded vending systems which when correctly entered on the prepaid meter, seamlessly rolls over the meter in compliant with the latest STS2 edition.
The current software for all prepaid electricity meters in the world including Nigeria will expire on 24th November 2024, in what is called TID Rollover. Your Pre-paid meter must be upgraded, otherwise you won’t be able to recharge your meter or use electricity.
The upgrade is FREE OF CHARGE. Generating/Obtaining KCT is at ZERO COST to our esteemed customers.
To upgrade your meter, you need a Key Change Token-KCT (a special ‘reset’ token) to be loaded on your meter.
After obtaining the 2 sets of KCT (KCT1 and KCT2).
Load KCT 1 directly on your meter, press Enter, then load KCT2 and press Enter.
Tada! if loaded correctly, your meter has been upgraded.
If a meter fails to accept a KCT, kindly contact PHED PLC for further assistance.
No, all old tokens must be loaded before Rollover. Any electricity token not loaded before rollover will be rejected by the meter and no reimbursement will be made on these tokens. Note that your meter will not accept your newly bought token, until the KCT has been loaded.
No, your credit unit balance on the meter will remain the same and would not be affected after the meter upgrade (i.e. loading of the KCT).
No, you will not need to have your meter changed if it is a properly functioning prepaid meter.
